Spicy Sausage Flatbread with Red Onion & Parsley

This artisanal-style flatbread is topped with melted mozzarella, spicy crumbled sausage, sweet red onions, and fresh parsley. Baked to golden perfection on a pillowy base, it’s a bold and savory twist on pizza night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 naan or flatbreads
  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 lb spicy Italian sausage, casing removed
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • Optional: crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Place naan or flatbreads on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and cook the sausage, breaking it apart, until browned and fully cooked (6–8 minutes). Set aside.
  3. Spread a thin layer of sauce over each flatbread.
  4. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, then evenly distribute the cooked sausage and sliced red onion.
  5. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and edges are golden.
  6. Remove from oven, sprinkle with fresh parsley and crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
  7. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use pre-baked flatbreads or naan for a quick shortcut.
  • Swap sausage for a vegetarian alternative for a meat-free option.
  • Try adding roasted bell peppers or mushrooms for extra toppings.
