Caprese Tart with Fresh Basil and Balsamic Drizzle

A stunning twist on the classic Caprese salad, this savory tart features fresh mozzarella, vine-ripened tomatoes, basil, and a balsamic drizzle on a crisp puff pastry base. Perfect as an appetizer or light meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry or savory tart crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced
  • 2 large ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp balsamic glaze
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out puff pastry or tart dough and press into a tart pan. Prick the base with a fork.
  3. Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with minced garlic.
  4. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden and crisp. Let cool slightly.
  5. Arrange alternating slices of mozzarella and tomato in a circular pattern over the cooled tart crust.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, and drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze.
  7. Garnish generously with fresh basil leaves.
  8. Serve immediately, or chill for 10–15 minutes for a refreshing twist.

Notes

  • Use heirloom tomatoes for added color and flavor variation.
  • Make sure the puff pastry is fully cooled before topping to prevent sogginess.
  • Can be prepared a few hours ahead and chilled until serving.
