Ingredients

Scale

Turkey

  • 1 Butterball turkey breast roast (39 lbs), thawed

Seasoning & Cooking

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or nonstick spray
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Herbs and spices: thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, paprika (amounts as preferred)
  • 1/2 cup broth, wine, or water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Turkey: Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels. If the turkey is boneless and has netting, leave the netting on to help maintain shape during cooking.
  2. Season the Turkey: Spray or brush the turkey with olive oil or nonstick spray to ensure the seasonings adhere well. Rub the turkey all over with salt, pepper, and your choice of herbs and spices such as thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, and paprika for flavor.
  3. Set in Crock Pot: Place the turkey in the slow cooker skin-side up for optimal cooking. Pour 1/2 cup of broth, wine, or water around the turkey to keep the meat moist throughout the slow cooking process.
  4. Cook the Turkey: Cover the slow cooker and cook the turkey on LOW setting for 4 hours. After 4 hours, check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should read around 140°F. If not yet at 165°F, continue cooking for 1 to 2 additional hours until the internal temperature reaches a safe 165°F.
  5. Rest and Serve: Once fully cooked, carefully remove the turkey from the crock pot and tent it loosely with aluminum foil. Allow it to rest for 15 minutes to let the juices redistribute. If the turkey was boneless with netting, remove the netting before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Cooking time varies based on the size of the turkey breast; always rely on a meat thermometer to ensure safety.
  • For added flavor, use broth or wine as the cooking liquid instead of water.
  • Letting the turkey rest after cooking helps retain its juices for a moist roast.
  • Make sure the slow cooker is set to LOW for even, gentle cooking.
  • Removing the netting before serving prevents any unpleasant texture while eating.
