Ingredients

Scale

Banana Donut Balls

  • 1/2 cup Banana (1 large banana)
  • 3/4 cup Self-Rising Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup Unrefined Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (melted, or melted vegan butter)
  • 23 tablespoons Melted Coconut Oil (for kneading and brushing)

For Coating

  • Additional melted Coconut Oil (for brushing)
  • Cinnamon Sugar (a mix of cinnamon and sugar to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Banana Puree: Mash the banana into a smooth puree until you get 1/2 cup of mashed banana. This ensures the right moisture balance for the dough.
  2. Make the Dough: Add the self-rising flour, cinnamon, and sugar to the banana puree. Stir with a rubber spatula until lumps begin to form. Oil your hands with melted coconut oil and knead the mixture to form a sticky, moist dough ball. If the dough is too wet, add up to 2-3 tablespoons more flour cautiously. The dough should remain moist and elastic, not dry.
  3. Shape the Donut Holes: Grease your hands again with melted coconut oil. Take about a tablespoon of dough, roll it into a ball, and place it on a parchment-lined plate. Repeat for the remaining dough. Spray avocado oil lightly over the shaped balls to prevent sticking.
  4. Prepare the Air Fryer Basket: Spray oil in the air fryer basket to prevent sticking. Arrange the donut balls spaced about 1 inch (3 cm) apart to give them room to expand during cooking.
  5. Air Fry: Cook at 350°F (180°C) for 6-7 minutes or until the donut holes are puffy, golden brown, and dry on the outside with a slightly uneven shape. This indicates perfect cooking.
  6. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: While warm, brush each donut hole with melted coconut oil using a pastry brush. Then roll each one in cinnamon sugar to coat evenly, giving them the classic donut flavor.
  7. Serve: Serve the banana donut holes warm immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use self-rising flour for the correct rise; if unavailable, combine all-purpose flour with baking powder and salt.
  • Adjust the amount of flour carefully to keep the dough moist without becoming too dry or dense.
  • You can substitute coconut oil with melted vegan butter.
  • These donut holes are best served fresh and warm; they can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • For a gluten-free option, use a gluten-free self-rising flour blend but expect slight texture differences.
