This rich and creamy Amaretto Hot Chocolate combines the comforting warmth of melted chocolate with the smooth, nutty flavor of amaretto liqueur. Perfect for cozy evenings, this single-serving hot chocolate is easy to make on the stovetop and offers a delightful twist on a classic winter beverage.

Ingredients

Scale

Hot Chocolate Base

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Flavoring

  • 1 oz. Amaretto liqueur (1 shot)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, add the semi-sweet chocolate chips, sugar, a pinch of salt, and whole milk. Place over medium-low heat.
  2. Heat and Whisk: Using a whisk, stir the mixture frequently to help dissolve the sugar and melt the chocolate. Continue whisking until the chocolate melts fully and the mixture reaches a gentle simmer. Be careful not to let it boil rapidly to avoid burning the milk and chocolate at the bottom.
  3. Finish and Flavor: Once the mixture reaches a low simmer, promptly remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract to combine thoroughly.
  4. Serve: Pour or ladle the hot chocolate into a mug. Add the amaretto liqueur on top and stir gently to blend the flavors. Optionally, top with whipped cream or other favorite hot chocolate toppings. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Do not let the hot chocolate boil rapidly to prevent burning and a bitter taste.
  • For a richer alternative, substitute whole milk with half-and-half or add a dollop of whipped cream on top.
  • Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing sugar according to your preference.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the amaretto liqueur and consider adding a splash of almond extract for similar flavor notes.
